Summary

When journalist Ellie looks through her newspaper’s archives for a story, she doesn’t think she’ll find anything of interest。 Instead she discovers a letter from 1960, written by a man asking his lover to leave her husband – and Ellie is caught up in the intrigue of a past love affair。 Despite, or perhaps because of her own romantic entanglements with a married man。

In 1960, Jennifer wakes up in hospital after a car accident。 She can’t remember anything – her husband, her friends, who she used to be。 And then, when she returns home, she uncovers a hidden letter, and begins to remember the lover she was willing to risk everything for。

Ellie and Jennifer’s stories of passion, adultery and loss are wound together in this richly emotive novel – interspersed with real ‘last letters’。

Book club read。

A very interesting and compelling story, but I found myself wishing it had ended sooner。 The whole trope of just missing each other, over and over, got a bit old。

Meagan

Wordy, took me a moment to get hooked -But once I did, I couldn’t put it down。 Looking forward to seeing how the Netflix version holds up。

Not a fan of books featuring extra-marital affairs。 Ruins it for me。

I wanted to read this before I watched the movie on Netflix。 At times predictable and felt like a repeat of "Letters to Juliet", but if you want a sappy double love story, this is it。 Looking forward to watching the movie。 I wanted to read this before I watched the movie on Netflix。 At times predictable and felt like a repeat of "Letters to Juliet", but if you want a sappy double love story, this is it。 Looking forward to watching the movie。 。。。more

If I could give this 10/10 I would! Such a good story about love and loss。

I guess I should just stop reading stories about infidelity。 Not sure how the author can create two, interwoven plot lines about a cheating spouse, and make one a “beautiful” love story and the other what adultery is: selfish and painful。 Jojo Moyes has written other books that have been upsetting to me morally, and this fit right into that group。

Zuzanna

Woooow!!

Entertaining and sweet。 I liked the parallels between past and present。 Do yourself a favor and do not watch the movie on Netflix。

Roseanna Rivera

Really good book! Grab some tissues。 Now to watch the movie。 Hope it’s good

I stopped reading when I got to Part 3--end of story。 Finding Anthony O'Hare in the newspaper's archives was the highlight of the book for me。 At least the book has a happy ending。 Definitely not my favorite Jojo Moyes book。 I stopped reading when I got to Part 3--end of story。 Finding Anthony O'Hare in the newspaper's archives was the highlight of the book for me。 At least the book has a happy ending。 Definitely not my favorite Jojo Moyes book。 。。。more

This would make a great TV drama。

I gave up half way through。 I just couldn’t get interested in this story and what I did read felt sickly sweet with not much substance。 I hate giving up on a book but there’s too many good reads waiting for me。

Katie

I kept wanting to read more。 Entertaining。

Lydia

I loved this book I just finished it and want to read it again。

Willow Moellering

I really liked this book as an escape。 It was a little predictable, but more in a comforting way。

Luísa Bastos

A Jojo é mestre em escrever histórias emocionantes! Recomendo esse livro demais demais

Roxana Kappmeyer

Struggled to get into the book because it was confusing how it switched back and forth between different characters POV without transition。 However, the last third of the book was worth the read。 Excited to watch the Netflix movie to compare。

Heather

This book ebbed and flowed。 During some parts I was struggling to put the book down, but many others were hard to get through。 I liked the way the latter story tied into the earlier one, and ultimately considered this an enjoyable read。

Gentiana Berisha

I loved this story。 It’s very hard to make me cry when I am reading but I got so tearful as I was reading the ending。 Only reason it was 4 stars was the structure of the book as sometimes I was confused what year we was reading in…

I love this author , but this was not one of my favorites from her。 It just didn’t keep me as interested as other books。 It was a good story, but not a page turner for me。
